First off is my weekly checkin on your photo review – did you do it?

I have been doing some research as part of prepping what I want to talk about and I have found I am as guilty of procrastination with organizing my photos as I am trying to get others to get their photos out and scrapbooked.

What I realized is that I don’t have a plan. My photos are all over the place and every time I want to print a photo I have to download it to my computer to print it. When I down load it I lose all the metadata – UGGG- like I was not already bad about labels this is a double whammy. Also I am sure I have duplicates everywhere.

I thought I was being smart by having my photos not in my computer because I lost baby photos of my older daughter because of a computer crash. I have also change computer types over the years. So cloud storage for everything was the way to go right? It might be or it might not.

  • How do I de-duo my photos?
  • How do I really use my photos?
  • How much storage do I need to really pay for?
  • Do I have a good backup plan?
  • How do I tag or label my photos?

My realization is that I think I need to really spend some time evaluating how I want to manage my photos. I will admit I don’t know where to start and honestly it feels overwhelming to think about.

I am going to start with some reflection on how I want to use my photos and figure out how to make sure I get my other family members photos all in one place easily. That will allow me to print or download without losing the meta data.

One thing I learned this week is the Google has a app that lets you download all of your data including your photos/videos. This makes me feel better about tackling this project.

The app is called Takeout. This will allow me to take all my photos from Google and put on a hard drive to try to de-dup and organize. I am hoping Amazon has a way to do this as well. Get all my photos in one hard drive and then go from there to figure out my storage and backup plan.

One step at a time….
